A History Of The Glamorgan Classic Car Club
During 1998 there were a few classic car exhibitors who were meeting up at car
shows quite regularly. They decided that they would like to if possible be
together when attending shows. They knew that the way to achieve this was to set
up a club of their own and get recognised as a car club by organizers of the car
shows.
During early 1999 it was decided that a club should be set up in Tonyrefail as
four out of the seven original members had ties to the area (one lived in
Tonyrefail, two live nearby and one worked in Tonyrefail). The meetings were
arranged for the first Tuesday of each month in Tonyrefal Non-Political Club. At
the first meeting there were only the original members “We need a badge, Brucie
pleaded with me at 11:30pm one night “Right Brucie I'll do you one''. Days later
a badge was ready. We need membership cards was the next appeal. "Right Brucie
I'll do you some” and cards were made and now we were a proper club.
"GLAMORGAN CLASSIC CAR CLUB" was born. Membership in the first year went from
seven to nearly fifty, another twenty five joined in 2001. Now in 2004 we have
around a hundred members. Our club stand regularly have between ten and twenty
five cars on show with many more under renovation ( hopefully more will be ready
for showing soon). The club is now being recognised as one of the display clubs
with cars being shown throughout South Wales and as far as Wroughton (Swindon)
and Malvern.
